2019 starts swiftly

January is always a burly month; I've got a birthday or two to celebrate, plus my youngest son's birthday; there's new resolutions and annual reviews, habits quickly getting derailed, and clients off on holiday. This year, we also had family move to New Zealand with us! On my very birthday, they landed at the Wellington airport to join us in our new home. The Huntress Clan is growing in New Zealand Taos had a birthday - he's 7. Accomplishments This [...]

The Queen of Wands

This year, for my birthday I have drawn a card of happiness, satisfaction, and fertility. The Queen of Wands is a card that could signify a plan to accomplish a large amount of work in a small period of time, a balance of the shadow and the light parts of ourselves, or a helpful, supportive person in the querent's life. Every year, when I draw a tarot card on my birthday (see previous years here) I am always surprised by [...]

New Years Resolutions 2019

"There is nothing magical about the flip of a calendar," says Jason Soroski, "but it represents a clean break, a new hope, and a blank canvas." Making New Year's Resolutions presents us with an opportunity to reboot our lives, and reset our habits. Annual Review 2018

2018 was a big year. I've worked harder this year than I ever have in my life (and that's really saying something). As I look back, I'm proud of what I've accomplished, and I'm also navigating the peculiar difficulties of slowing down. It's a challenge to achieve and accomplish things, and not work so hard, but that seems to be what 2019 has in store for me. Annual Review Table of Contents My #AnnualReview consists of 4 parts: What were [...]

Summer Christmas

Having a summer Christmas in New Zealand is odd. Like the whole world is turned upside-down. Which, I suppose in the Southern Hemisphere, it is. The sun rises before 6 am, and sets after 10. The longest day of the year is next week. It's disorienting to have our traditional Winter holiday as the beginning of the summer season, but it's also exciting and fun. We started shaking off our old holiday traditions by completely ignoring Thanksgiving this year, [...]

10 Books That Changed My Life

I’m going to tell you about 10 books that changed my life, which is tricky for me, right now. Most of the books that changed my life are not currently in my possession. My library is in storage in the United States, the last 1000 books I could not bear to part with when we moved to New Zealand, so the interesting part of this exercise is — I have to see what really sticks. In selecting my top 10, [...]
