“AI is very good at content, but not context. Without context, it doesn’t know what to do, so it doesn’t have any purpose.”
– Daniel Priestley

The quality of your AI outputs depends on the context you give it.

What is Context with AI?

Think of it like having a conversation. If your partner doesn’t know what you’ve been talking about, how can they respond well?

Context is the information behind the content.

Developing context is how I refine my prompts, shape my visuals, and treat AI like a creative collaborator (instead of a vending machine.)

You can see the value of context with this simple game: Ask a GPT to brainstorm 10 unique, unconventional ideas to market your business. You will get bland results.

Try asking these three progressive prompts in sequence, and you will see how your results improve.

(Replace words in CAPS)

  1. What are the most commonly asked questions about TOPIC?
  2. Generate a list of long tail keywords related to these questions.
  3. My business helps DEMOGRAPHIC with PROBLEM by SOLUTION. Brainstorm 10 unique, unconventional methods to market my business.

Compare your output to just prompting the third prompt. By using progressive prompting, and generating more context, you will get better results.

Why does this work?

First, you get ChatGPT to think about your topic. In the example above, you get AI to research keywords that people are already searching for relating to that topic.

Then, when you ask for ideas, it has already built up additional context around that question.

Greater context = better answers.
