1. Easter egg hunts
Since we are in the Southern Hemisphere, the Spring celebration of Ostara falls in the Fall. It’s odd, having the traditional spring easter-egg-hunt while the weather is turning colder, but it was till fun.
We plan on celebrating half-holidays, so we will celebrate Easter 2 2019 in the springtime. Stay tuned!
2. Life milestone: We put away the juicer.
For months, a masticating juicer has been on the kitchen countertop, because raw cabbage juice was one of the daily ministrations provided to me by my lady wife, as she worked to heal me.
After months of daily cabbage juice (yes, it is as gross as it sounds) my gut biome has healed, my energy has returned, and I’m able to function like a normal human again.
We stopped using the juicer so frequently, so we were able to put it away, because I’m no longer in active recovery mode. The natural healing remedies have been working – all thanks to my wife, the best healer that I know.
3. I incorporated my business in New Zealand.
My digital marketing agency is still incorporated in the US, and I’ve been running it as an American living abroad. For the rest of the year, it will likely stay that way, and my clients won’t notice any difference – but behind the scenes, I’m setting up the infrastructure to transition entirely out of the United States.
Morning alarms
We had to wake up extra early one day this month, and I was surprised to see that I already had a 5:30 alarm programmed in my phone.
When I saw the label ‘Mastermind’ I remembered that time, more than a year ago, when I would wake up at 5:30 to prep for a 6 AM Mastermind call, timed so that I could be at the train station by 7:30 and off to my day job.
While I do enjoy facilitating Mastermind groups, I am grateful that I no longer have to fit them in around the demanding schedule of a full-time job.
This is the first time I have worked less than 40 hours per week in many years, and while I am glad that I once had the endurance to work so hard and for so long, I am very happy that I don’t have to do that anymore.
4. Thought Leaders Book Club
The latest cohort of the Make It Happen Mastermind is complete. I am taking a brief break from leading masterminds, so I could put together a book club, for my new favourite business book.
Reading More Books
This is all I need for my #CompanyOfOne – a laptop, a notebook, caffeine, and (not pictured) WiFi. Running my own small business has enabled me to do the work I want to do, when I want to do it, wherever in the world I want to be. This book by Paul Jarvis has codified many of the unwritten rules of how I run my business, and given me the language to challenge conventional business advice that says I should be growing bigger, hiring more, and scaling in the pursuit of expansion.
I don’t do any of that.
As a Company of One, I don’t want other people to do my work for a cheaper price, and charge my clients on the difference. I’ve always been dissatisfied with that model – cheaper contractors provide cheaper work. Instead, by focusing exclusively on producing at high quality, I don’t have to get distracted with things like HR or payroll. I can focus on my craft, helping people sell their work online, and that’s the work that I do best.
5. I watched Avengers: Endgame, and it was great.
